National Microfinance Bank, Tanzania: The Case of Agriculture Financing by a Transformed Public Sector Bank

With the support of RIAS B.V., National Microfinance Bank in Tanzania now serves smallholder farmers after having been transformed from a public sector bank in 2005.  Now the largest bank in Tanzania, ranked by customer base and branch network, it offers innovative services and products tailored to the agriculture sector and benefitting smallholder  and larger-scale farmers, including producer cooperatives and other actors in the agricultural value chains.  This presentation shares RIAS’ experience in supporting the bank during its transformation process.
