Our invited speakers, James Putnam, Executive Vice President and his colleagues, Stephen Weir, and Allyn Lamb gave an overview of Farm Credit East operations, and discussed their lending and risk management strategies and procedures in detail.

James Putnam, Executive Vice President, Farm Credit East
James is a member of the senior management team with responsibility for financial services, marketing, communications, business planning and member relations. James is proud to be a 38-year Farm Credit veteran, having worked with virtually all of the Northeast's farm industries and cooperatives over the course of his career. James is a graduate of the University of Massachusetts, Amherst (B.S.) and Iowa State University (M.S.).
Stephen Weir, Vice President, Farm Credit East
Stephen is responsible for the organization's success in the New York metropolitan area serving agribusiness industries including horticulture, food/fiber manufacturing and processing, agri-tourism, production agriculture, commercial fishing and real estate. With 20 years of experience, Steve specializes in agri-business on the urban fringe and businesses in transition. Steve has a graduate degree in Applied Economics from Cornell University.
Allyn Lamb, former President and CEO, AgChoice Farm Credit
Allyn was the President and CEO of AgChoice Farm Credit for over 14 years. Prior to that, he served for 28 years in various leadership roles with Farm Credit East’s predecessor organizations. Mr. Lamb also served for eight years in lending positions in commercial banking. Among other international work, he assisted the Nigerian Minister of Agriculture in his efforts to establish a new farm credit system. He is a graduate of Cornell University.
Farm Credit East is the leading lender to agriculture in the Northeast United States. Part of the National Farm Credit System, FCE is a farmer-owned cooperative. Farm Credit has been lending to farming, fishing, and forestry, in good times and bad, for nearly 100 years. It currently serves 12,000 customers in the states of New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Rhode Island with $4 billion of loans and a diverse program of financial services that help farmers successfully manage their businesses.
